Video: HBO FILMS Directors Dialogue with David Fincher @ NYFF 2010

I, like many of you (hypothetically speaking) scoffed at the notion that a film about the origin (fictionalized as it may be) of Facebook could be at all interesting, even one directed by David Fincher. You said, "WTF??!!!" at first too. You did. Well, my doubtful Thomases, Fincher's The Social Network hasn't even been widely released yet and critics are saying that it is the movie that defines this decade. Okay, it was one critic--a Rolling Stone critic to be exact, whose credibility seems to mean less and less these days, but still. The Rotten Tomatoes meter does not lie. The film is currently at 96% fresh. It was at 100%, but some Dbag had to cavil about the movie glorifying essentially reprehensible behavior (epitomized in the main character, Mark Zuckerberg) or something like that. It was a long diatribe masquerading as cultural criticism. Since when do protagonists always have to be likable anyway? Remember Tyler Durden?

The Social Network was screened as part of the New York Film Festival recently and David Fincher discussed the film at a HBO FILMS Directors Dialogue with Variety's Todd McCarthy. First of six videos below. Go HERE for the rest. The Social Network opens October 1.
